Choosing Data Recovery Services
Losing important data due to accident, user error, malware, etc can be devastating. Whether you are a company or business that lost files or information or an individual that lost your personal data (pictures, etc.), there are ways to recover this lost data.

How can you choose a good data recovery service? How do you know who to trust with your data files, especially if they are sensitive? Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Don’t go with the first company you find.
  • Don’t always trust the cheapest service.
  • Be sure to investigate the service and their experience.
  • What is their privacy policy?
  • What methods will they use to recover your lost data?

These are important questions to ask when you begin searching for someone. Chances are, you want your data retrieved as soon as possible but that doesn’t mean you can’t have it done correctly as well.

There are some other things to keep in mind when going with a data recovery service as well. For example:

  • What is there evaluation policy?
  • How long does evaluation typically take?
  • How will they determine how much is salvageable?
  • How is pricing based?

The evaluation process is when the data recovery service looks at your media device to determine whether or not the data can be retrieved and how. This can take anywhere from 1-5 days depending on the company so if time is an issue for you, be sure to find out upfront if they are going to be able to do it quickly.

If privacy and confidentiality are an issue for you, be sure to go with a company that assures you this and that uses non-disclosure agreements with their customers so that you feel secure in releasing your data to them.
